Starting Range:
$34.05 – $38.31 (Pending Education & Experience)

Manager, Child & Family Services

The Supervisor of the Band Representative Program is primarily responsible to provide high level guidance and oversight to the Band Representative Program in its entirety with respect to child protection, court processes, applicable legislation/regulations, and internal processes. The position is also responsible to supervise all staff within the Program. The Band Representative Supervisor functions within legislative requirements, regulations, policies and procedure and the Mission, Beliefs and Vision of the Garden River First Child & Family Services Department.

• Providing oversight and ongoing guidance with respect to protection investigations involving Garden River families
• Overseeing all court processes associated with the Program including attendance at court, preparation of and filing court documents within required deadlines, ensuring the position of the Band is advanced in court proceedings
• Ensuring all court files are current, accurate and up to date
• Ensuring all applicable legislation/regulations/guidelines are adhered to i.e., Child & Youth Family Services Act, Family Law Rules, Eligibility Spectrum, Plans of Care, Wellness Plans, Traditional Customary Care Plans, Child Protection Standards, Consultation with Protection Agencies.
• Supervision of In-Home Support staff providing intervention services in the home
• Ongoing monitoring/review of all case files
• Mentoring staff performance/development
• Monitoring/Reviewing/Approving staff time
• Engaging in ongoing and regular supervision of staff including completing annual performance appraisals
• Preparing and maintaining records, including court documents and other required documents
• Capturing statistics by ensuring information inputted into internal data base system is accurate and up to date
• Completing all necessary monthly/quarterly/annual financial and statistical reports
• Preparing quarterly/annual reports and workplans
• Assisting with annual budget preparation
• Maintaining and monitoring specific program budgets
• Ongoing development/implementation/review of internal policies and procedures
• Developing/revising necessary internal forms as required
• Liaising with protection agencies, lawyers, judges, and court services
• Perform other related duties as may be required and assigned

• A 2-year Post Secondary Diploma/Certificate in Human Services or related studies from recognized institution or equivalent education/experience
• Must have access to a personal vehicle and a valid driver’s license
• Ability to travel frequently if necessary
• Three (3) years experience in a program management setting
• Two (2) years’ experience supervising staff
• Must have extensive knowledge and all applicable legislations, regulations, and guidelines
• Demonstrated knowledge with court processes relating to Child Protection cases
• Demonstrated sensitivity to and knowledge of First Nation cultural values and traditions
• Ability to deal effectively with difficult clients and conflicting situations
• Excellent facilitation, coordination, assessment and planning skills;
• Excellent organizational, time management, interpersonal skills and communications skills, both oral and written
• Must undergo a criminal record check prior to employment (At Applicant Expense)
