Position: Lands & Resources Officer
Starting Range: $29.15 – $32.14 (Pending Education & Experience)
Location: Lands & Resources Department
Report to: Lands and Resources Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

The Lands & Resources Officer is responsible for the development and administration of Lands Management on Garden River
Territories. The Lands & Resources Officer is also responsible for to ensure the accurate and timely administration and registration
of all information, legal documents, leases, permits and certificates related to lands and estates, also responsible for the
development and administration of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The Lands & Resources Officer functions within
legislative requirements, regulations, policies and procedures and the Mission, Beliefs and Vision of the Garden River First Nation,
and contributes to the accomplishment of the strategic priorities.

DUTIES
• Participating in the development and ongoing revisions of a Land Use Plan, resulting in the identification of future land uses,
based on community needs and requirements (i.e., residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural, open space, etc.)
• Preparing written reports on progress with measurable outcomes and indicators to the Manager on a monthly basis;
• Participating in and identifying partnerships;
• Providing written reports and briefing notes to the Manager as it relates to the Land Use Plan following meetings;
• Researching and acquiring land use plans from other First Nations to analysis opportunities for the community;
• Ensuring that the proposed creation of any interest (i.e., land allotments, land transfers, locate leasing, permits etc.) is in
compliance with each of the following, where applicable:
o Comprehensive Community Plan;
o Land Use Plan;
o other site specific land management projects and plans, such as Economic Development, Capital, Housing, Natural
Resources; and
o Approved development plans or zoning by-laws.
• Ensuring technical assistance/advice on development within our territories (municipalities, industry, government);
• Ensuring knowledge of all Federal, Provincial, First Nations, Municipal legislation and policies that may have an impact on our
Aboriginal Rights or Title;
• Participating and sitting on committees that relate to lands, resources, environment or others as they may be developed
(internal or external);
• Monitoring government web sites for potential legislative and policy changes that would impact the plan;
• Performing other duties as may be required or assigned;

QUALIFICATIONS
• Required bachelor degree or three year college diploma relating to history of FN people, environmental studies and law
pertaining to First Nations;
• Required one year related experience;
• Related experience including: Class “G” Drivers License, database management and mapping skills, field survey and lands
management knowledge;
• Demonstrated sensitivity to and knowledge to the First Nation cultural values and traditions;
• Ability to use good judgment in assessing difficult situations;
• Ability to be consistent and display a positive/helpful attitude;
• Excellent organizational skills, time management skills, interpersonal and communications skills, both oral and writte;
• Excellent computer skills (including MS Word, Word Perfect, Excel, Internet, Email, Outlook);
• Must undergo a criminal record check prior to employment (At Applicant Expense)
