Position: WINTER MAINTENANCE SANDER/PLOW OPERATOR
Starting Range: $19.94 – $22.16 (Pending Qualifications)
Starting Date: Winter Season (Beginning of November)
Report to: Business Manager
Position Summary
The Winter Maintenance Sander/Plow Operator is responsible for maintaining the Garden River First Nation roads and Highway 17 and Highway 17B. The Summer/Winter Maintenance functions within legislative requirements, regulations, policies and procedures and the Mission, Beliefs and Vision of the Garden River First Nation, and contributes to the accomplishment of the strategic priorities.
Duties
• Highway refuse and rubbish removal
• Ability to work in inclement weather
• Driving, operating, and loading the sander/plow in all types of weather conditions including extreme conditions, on four main routes
• Cleaning and maintaining sanding equipment and trucks
• Performing daily fluid checks and fill us (i.e. diesel fuel, salt, oil, and hydraulic fluid) and completing daily circle checks of trucks and sander/plow equipment to ensure no fluids or leaks
• Driving vehicles to Sault Ste. Marie for repair
• Completing computer data forms for Ministry of Transportation (MTO)
o Displaying usage of salt, sand, and pre-wet materials
o Recording start/stop and turnaround times
• Performing general maintenance duties including cleaning GRFN vehicles, building maintenance
• Performing other duties as may be required or assigned
Qualifications
• Highschool Diploma and/or G.E.D preferred;
• Require “DZ” License and clear drivers abstract to operate Plow and Sander Trucks;
• Required one-year related experience including: knowledge of the operations and maintenance of heavy equipment, sanding, and snow removal;
• Ability to be available on a 12 hour on-call basis, seven (7) days a week (including Christmas and New Years) and respond to trucks within 30 minutes of being called (Winter Maintenance);
• Ability to work outdoor in ALL conditions
• Demonstrated sensitivity to and knowledge to the First Nation cultural values and traditions;
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team;
• Ability to report for work as scheduled;
• Must provide own safety boots, hard hats, and safety vests and always wear them while on the job;
• Must undergo a criminal record check prior to employment (At Applicant’s Expense)
