The Public Works Department wishes to invite the Garden River Community to the Open House of the Waste Transfer Station located at 216 Noonday Drive on Thursday August 12, 2021, at 1:30pm.
The GRFN transfer station is a resource recovery center used as a processing site for the temporary deposition, consolidation, and aggregation of waste.
Landfills are a valuable resource, requiring extensive engineering design and long-term monitoring of water and air resources. By diverting waste, there is a delay in the need for new landfills. Conserving our landfill space allows it to be used longer for waste that cannot be diverted. Waste segregation will continue to play an important role with general waste in GRFN following the proper waste stream monitoring the diversion rate.
The transfer station will be situated at the Aggerates area in GRFN. This area will be designated as a temporary transfer station which will include the following disposal bins: Share shed, Tires, Household waste, Electronics, Scrap metals, Batteries, Lightbulbs, Mattresses and Appliances.
In order to ensure a smooth transition and to adhere to safety laws and regulations, GRFN has put in place an attendant at the gate of the transfer station to direct and advise the community on proper areas of disposal.
THE OFFICIAL OPENING DATE OF THE TRANSFER STATION IS AUGUST 17, 2021, AT 9:00AM
216 NOONDAY DRIVE. The Landfill site will now be closed permanently after August 12, 2021.
